Let Us Learn How to Be Intercessors
Exodus 33:12-17
This message uses Moses in Exodus 33 to teach the church what intercession looks like when it grows out of real relationship with God. The sermon connects the weekly Torah reading to the larger desire to see Jesus revealed throughout the first five books and then focuses on Moses as an intermediary who stands between God and the people. Rather than presenting intercession as a technique alone, the message shows that it grows out of knowing God's character, hearing his voice, and allowing what God has placed in the heart to be drawn out in prayer. The hope of the sermon is that believers can learn to engage with God in a way that makes them true intercessors for the world around them.
- The sermon begins by encouraging the church to use the Torah reading tools and to keep growing in seeing Jesus in the first five books.
- It then turns to Exodus 33, where Moses rises as an active intercessor between God and Israel.
- The message highlights that God already knows what is in a person and often uses relationship to bring that God-given burden to the surface.
- Intercession is framed as participation in God's heart rather than mere religious effort.
- The sermon closes by inviting the church to learn the principles of intercession from Moses' example.
Do not reduce intercession to repeating requests without relationship. Spend time learning God's character, listening for his heart, and letting him draw out what he wants you to carry in prayer. Ask not only what you need from God, but what he wants to reveal through you for others.
Lord, teach us to be intercessors who know your heart and listen for your voice. Draw out what you have placed within us, and help us stand faithfully in prayer for your people and for the world around us.
