When the Holy Spirit Has Come
Acts 1:6-8
This message celebrates Pentecost as a day of remembrance, fulfillment, and gift. By connecting Passover bread to the day the Spirit was poured out, the sermon shows that God did not only redeem his people from sin and death, but also gave them the Holy Spirit so they could live as a transformed and empowered people. The message uses the simple image of bread to make a profound point: what seems ordinary can become a vessel of nourishment, witness, and blessing when God fills it. In the same way, believers are not meant merely to admire the story of Pentecost from a distance. They are meant to receive the gift of the Spirit personally and live by his power. The hope of the sermon is that the Holy Spirit is not an optional extra for a few special believers. He is God's promised gift to his people, given so that ordinary lives may be filled with heaven's presence, power, and joy.
- The sermon begins by naming Pentecost, the Feast of Weeks, and inviting the church to remember what this day means.
- It then connects Pentecost to Passover, showing how the bread of life and the gift of the Spirit belong together in God's redemptive story.
- From there the message uses an ordinary example from daily life to illustrate how something simple can become powerful when rightly received and shared.
- The church is then reminded that the Holy Spirit is the Father's gift, not merely a concept to discuss.
- The message closes by calling believers to welcome the Spirit with gratitude and expectancy so that their lives may become fruitful, Spirit-filled witnesses.
Do not treat the Holy Spirit as distant, confusing, or reserved for someone else. Receive him as the gift God has promised to his people, and ask him to fill your ordinary life with fresh power and joy. Make room for his presence, and let his work shape the way you worship, speak, serve, and witness.
Holy Spirit, thank you that you are the gift of God to your people. Fill us again with your presence, your power, and your joy. Make our lives fruitful, teach us to walk closely with you, and let your fire rest on us so that we may glorify Jesus with courage and love.
